das Photo wurde am 18.11.06 in Toronto am Flughafen aufgenommen. Leider war Lara und wir nur auf der Durchreise nach Mexiko und haben uns nur den Flughafen angeschaut.

this picture was taken on November 18th, 2006 in Toronto at the airport. Unfortunately, Lara and we were only on a journey through to Mexico, so that we haven't seen any more than the airport.

Und weiter geht's, wir sind in Mexiko angekommen, das ist die Aussichtstelle Divisadero im Norden Mexikos. Das war dann am 20.11.06.

On it goes - meanwhile we arrived in Mexico. This is the viewpoint "Divisadero" in the North of Mexico. We visited the place at November 20 th , 2006.

Wir sind wieder eine Ecke weiter in Teotihuacán in der Nähe von Mexiko City bei den Azteken, im Hintergrund seht Ihr die Sonnenpyramide. Die Pyramide steht in der Stadt neben der Mondpyramide an der Straße der Toten (Hauptstraße von Teotihuacán). Die Sonnenpyramide ist die drittgrößte Pyramide der Welt. Den Namen bekam sie von den Azteken allerdings erst, als die Stadt schon seit Jahrhunderten verlassen war.
Teotihuacán ist eine riesige Ruinenstätte. Auf dem Höhepunkt ihrer Entwicklung war es die größte Stadt des amerikanischen Kontinents mit mehr als 150.000 bis hin zu 200.000 Einwohnern und über 83km². Seit dem 19. Jahrhundert wird der Ort gern von Touristen besucht.

The next few days, our journey continued. On November 27 th , 2006 we were in Teotihuacán near Mexico City with the Aztecs. In the background you can see the Pyramid of the Sun. The pyramid is located alongside the Pyramid of the Moon at the Avenue of the Dead (the city's broad central avenue). It is the third largest pyramid of the world. Its name was given to it by the Aztecs not until they had left the city for centuries.
Teotihuacán was in the first half of the 1 st millenium the largest city in the Americas. It covers a total surface area of 83km². It is said that there have lived about 150,000 to 200,000 inhabitants. Since the 19 th century it is a place liked by tourists.

Buenos Dias! (Ihr seht, wir lernen langsam Spanisch)
Das ist in Palenque bei der berühmten Maya-Stätte, das war am 03.12.06. Palenque heißt eigentlich B'aakal und war eine bedeutende Stadt der Maya. Seit 1987 gehört sie zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe. Neben den Ruinen gibt es dort auch noch eine vom Volk der Lacandonen bewohnte Stadt, die als direkte Nachkommen der ehemaligen Bewohner von Palenque gesehen werden.

Buenos Dias! (You see: We're learning some Spanish by now!)
This is Palenque, a Maya archeological site. We visited it on December 3 rd , 2006. Palenque is a middle-sized but famous Maya archaeological site. It contains some of the finest architecture, and sculpture of the Maya. It was the capital of the important classic-age Maya city-state of B'aakal. Since 1987 it belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Besides the ruins there is still a city with people living there who are said to be direct offspring of the inhabitants of Palenque.

Wir haben die nächste Stufe erreicht, Guatemala, die Stadt Tikal, am 05.12.06. Tikal ist eine antike Stadt der Maya in den Regenwäldern Guatemalas (und heißt eigentlich Mutal). Im 3. bis 9. Jahrhundert war sie eine der bedeutendsten Städte der Mayas, und gehört heute zu den Maya-Städten, die am besten erforscht sind. Erste Ansiedlungen an diesem Ort gab es schon im 7. Jahrhundert vor Christus, im 2. Jahrhundert begann die Entwicklung der Stadt mit Tempeln und Palästen.

We've reached the next step: Guatemala, the city of Tikal, on December 5 th , 2006. Tiakl is the largest of the ancient ruined cities of the Maya. It is located in the rainforest of Guatemala. The site presents hundreds of significant ancient buildings, only a fraction of which have been excavated in the decades of archaeological work. Tikal was one of the major cultural and population centers at the height of the Maya period between 200 and 850 AD. Ancient hieroglyphs refer to the city as "Mutal".

Und zum Abschluss: Mexiko, Isla de Mujeres am 13.12.06, und diesmal sind wir mit drauf.
Leider war die Reise durch 4 Länder (Kanada stopover, Mexiko, Guatemala und Belize) dann schon zu Ende.
In Belize waren wir leider auch nur auf der Durchreise, deswegen kein photografischer Beweis.
Lara ist jetzt wieder hier in Deutschland und war uns jeder Zeit ein treuer Begleiter und hat viel gesehen und gelernt.

For ending our journey we visited the Isla de Mujeres in Mexico on December 13th, 2006. This time, Lara got a picture with Kerstin and Dirk. Unfortunately, our journey through four countries (stopover in Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize) has come to an end too soon.
In Belize, we were on a journey through only, so that we had no possibility to take a good picture.
Lara's back in Germany by now. She's been a faithful companion and has seen and learned a lot.
