Liebe IRONteddy-Freunde,
endlich habe auch ich auf meiner World Tour einen tollen Ort erreicht, von dem ich euch gern ein paar Bilder schicken möchte. Reisen ist wirklich etwas spannendes, und ich hoffe, dass ich schon bald die nächste Station meiner Reisen erreichen werde, damit ich euch wieder von Neuigkeiten erzählen kann! Manche anderen IRONteddys haben ja auch schon so viel gesehen...
Ich jedenfalls habe meine erste Station zusammen mit den beiden IRONteddy-Mitarbeitern Sascha und Katrin in London gemacht. Es ist wirklich super da!

Dear IRONteddy-friends,
finally I reached the first station of my world tour, a really great place from which I'd like to send some pictures to you. Travelling is really exciting, and I hope that I'm able to reach the next station of my journey soon, so that I can report news. Some other IRONteddies have already seen that much.
My first station, by the way, was - accompanied by IRONteddy-staff Sascha and Katrin - London. It was so great!

Unser Hotel in London war direkt an der Oxford Street in Höhe von Marble Arch und der Speakers' Corner im Hyde Park. Besonders praktisch daran war, dass wir - obwohl nur zwei Betten bestellt waren - ein Dreibettzimmer bekommen haben, so dass ich mein eigenes Bett hatte. Und jeden Abend lag noch eine Süßigkeit darauf.

Our hotel in London was located at Oxford Street near Marble Arch and Speakers' Corner in Hyde Park. Best thing about it was that - although only two beds were ordered - we had a room with three beds, so I had my own one. And every evening there were goodies on our pillows!

Bei bestem Wetter sind wir dann vier Tage durch London gezogen und haben uns sehr viel angeschaut. Ich durfte Katrin und Sascha immer begleiten - und meistens musste ich nicht mal selbst laufen! So ist das Reisen doch besonders angenehm!

While we had the best weather, we started to discover London for four days. We visited really a lot of places there! I was always allowed to accompany Katrin and Sascha - and most of the time I needn't to walk by myself! That's when travelling is especially comfortable!

Unsere erste Anlaufstelle war Piccadilly Circus. Ich weiß nicht, ob ihr mich auf dem Bild sehen könnt - ich wirke ein wenig klein gegen die ganzen Werbetafeln. Aber in der unteren linken Ecke bin ich wirklich drauf auf dem Bild! Eigentlich sieht Piccadilly Circus schöner aus, wenn es dunkel ist - aber auch tagsüber ist es ein sehr schöner Platz!

First place we visited was Piccadilly Circus. I don't know if you can see me on the picture - I'm a little small against all this advertising there. But in the lower left corner maybe you can see me. Well, Piccadilly Circus looks better when it's dark - but it's great at daytime, too.

Weil das Wetter so schön war, sind wir noch ein wenig zu Fuß weiter durch London gestreift. Hier seht ihr mich im St. James's Park. Das große weiße Gebäude im Hintergrund ist der St. James's Palace, dahinter seht ihr das Riesenrad "London Eye". St. James's Palace ist die älteste Londoner Residenz und hat auch den großen Brand von London überstanden. Heinrich VIII. hat den Palast aus einem ehemaligen Lepra-Krankenhaus gebaut, und eine Zeitlang war er die offizielle Königsresidenz.

Because of the good weather we continued our journey through London on foot. On this picture you can see me at St. James's Park. The big white building in the background is St. James's Palace, behind that you can see the "London Eye". St. James's Palace is the oldest residence in London and endured the Great Fire. Henry VIII. built the palace out of a former leprosy-hospital. For a period of time it was the official royal residence.

Danach sind wir weitergegangen zu meinem Lieblingsort in London - Big Ben. Wie ihr seht, war der Mond schon aufgegangen und es wurde schon langsam dunkel, aber das Wetter war glücklicherweise immer noch großartig. Big Ben ist aber eigentlich nicht der Turm (der heißt "Clock Tower" und wurde 1858 von Sir Benjamin Hall gebaut), sondern die schwerste der fünf Glocken im Turm (13,5t). Der Turm spielt eine Melodie aus Georg Friedrich Händels "Messiah", und vier Mechaniker (die "Keeper of the Great Clock") sind damit beschäftigt, die Uhr ordnungsgemäß am Laufen zu halten.

After that we continued to my favourite place in London - Big Ben. As you can see, the moon was shining and it was slowly getting dark. But fortunately, weather was still great. Actually, Big Ben is not the tower (which is called "Clock Tower" and was built in 1858 by Sir Benjamin Hall) but the heaviest of the five bells inside the tower (13.8 tons). The tower plays a melody from "Messiah" of Georg Friedrich Handel. There are four mechanics (the "Keeper of the Great Clock") working on the proper work of the clock.

Am nächsten Morgen ging es dann weiter - und es war wieder wunderschönes Wetter. Also haben wir uns auf den Weg in die Londoner Parks gemacht - Hyde Park und die Kensington Gardens standen zuerst auf dem Programm. Hier seht ihr mich zusammen mit Peter Pan, dem Jungen, der nie erwachsen werden wollte. Das ist eine Figur von Sir George Frampton, die in dem Park steht.

The next morning we still had gorgeous weather. So we started off to visit the London parks - Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. On the picture you can see me with Peter Pan, the boy who wouldn't grow up. It's a statue of Sir George Frampton, displayed inside the park.

Auf dem Weg durch die Parks sind wir außerdem an der Royal Albert Hall und dem Albert Memorial vorbeigekommen. Die Albert Hall wurde 1871, zehn Jahre nach dem Tod von Prinz Albert von Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha und Mann von Königin Viktoria, eröffnet. Das Monument wurde 1872 errichtet. Es steht genau gegenüber dem Eingang der Royal Albert Hall.

On our way through the parks we stopped by at the Royal Albert Hall and the Albert Memorial. The Albert Hall was opened in 1871, ten years after the death of Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria. The monument was built in 1872. It's located directly opposite of the entrance of the Albert Hall.

Mittags haben wir die Parks verlassen und uns auf den Weg gemacht zur Horse Guards Parade. Dabei handelt es sich um ein Gebäude aus dem 18. Jahrhundert. Auf dem Bild seht ihr mich vor der Rückseite des Gebäudes - der Platz vor Gebäude ist der Paradeplatz, auf dem jährlich im Juni die offizielle Geburtstagsparade der Queen stattfindet.

At noon, we left the parks and continued to Horse Guards Parade. This is a building from the 18 th century. On the picture you can see me in front of the backside of the building - the place behind me is the place where every year in June there is "Trooping the Colours" - the official birthday-parade of the Queen.

Danach gingen wir gleich weiter zum Zuhause der Queen, dem Buckingham Palace. Das Schloss ist seit 1837 die "Stadtwohnung mit Büro" der königlichen Familie. Hier seht ihr mich vor dem Eingangstor - und es war ganz schön voll dort! Wenn die Queen in Urlaub ist, kann man den Palast auch besichtigen - aber das war sie nicht.

After that, we went on to the home of the Queen, Buckingham Palace. The castle is the "city-apartment with office" of the Royal Family since 1837. You can see me in front of one of the gates - it was really crowded there! When the Queen is on holidays, you can visit the palace - but this time, she wasn't.

Bei einem Spaziergang am Ufer der Themse konnte ich das Riesenrad "London Eye" auf der anderen Seite des Flusses bewundern. Von dort aus sah es gar nicht so hoch aus - aber als ich zwei Tage später davor stand, wurde mir doch ein wenig schwindlig! Das "London Eye" ist nämlich das höchste Riesenrad Europas.

During a walk at the bank of the Thames, I could see the big wheel "London Eye" at the other side of the river. It didn't look that high - but when I stood in front of it two days later, my head was swimming. The "London Eye" is the highest big wheel in Europe!

In London ist es ganz leicht, neue Freunde zu finden. Ob es nun eine Wache ist oder sogar die berühmte Kylie Minogue - alle haben sich mit mir fotografieren lassen! Na gut, ich gebe es zu - das war bei Madame Tussaud's und beides sind nur Wachsfiguren...

It's very easy to find friends in London. Whether it's a guard or the famous Kylie Minogue - everybody agreed to pose for photographs with me! Well, ok - I admit it: The pictures were taken at Madame Tussaud's and both of them are only way figures.

Unseren vierten Tag haben wir mit einer Besichtigung der Tower Bridge begonnen. Na gut, das Bild hier links ist abends aufgenommen, als wir schon einmal an der Brücke vorbeikamen. Aber die Tower Bridge sieht nicht nur von außen schön aus - innen gibt es das "Tower Bridge Experience". In den Türmen sieht man die Geschichte der Brücke, und in den oberen Durchgängen kann man auf die Themse herunterschauen.

Our fourth day in London we began with an inspection of the Tower Bridge. Ok, the picture you can see on the left side was taken in the evening, when we crossed the bridge before. But Tower Bridge isn't only nice seen from the outside - inside is the "Tower Bridge Experience". Inside the towers you can see the history of the bridge, and from the high-level walkways you can have a look at the Thames.

Nach einem Abstecher in den Tower haben wir das Shakespeare's Globe Theatre besichtigt. Das Theater ist eine Rekonstruktion von Shakespeares Freilichtbühne von 1599. Im Sommer werden dort auch Stücke von Shakespeare aufgeführt. Und im dazugehörigen Shop kann man sehen, dass ich eine ganz wichtige Persönlichkeit in London bin. ;-)

After a trip to the Tower we visited the Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. The theatre is a reconstruction of Shakespeare's open air theatre of 1599. During the summer, plays of Shakespeare are performed there. And inside the related shop you can see that I'm a very important person in London. ;-)

Den Abschluss meiner London-Reise bildete ein Besuch im Hard Rock Café. Das Hard Rock Café in London wurde 1971 als das weltweit erste der Kette eröffnet. Stammgast Eric Clapton ließ seine Gitarre an die Wand hängen, um seinen Platz zu markieren, kurz darauf schickte auch Pete Townshend von The Who seine Gitarre. Ab 1982 wurden weltweit weitere Hard Rock Cafés eröffnet, und mittlerweile gibt es über 70.000 Ausstellungsstücke von berühmten Künstlern. Mich seht ihr hier vor einer Gitarre von Marilyn Manson.

Finishing my journey to London was a visit of the Hard Rock Café. The one in London was opened in 1971 as the first one of the chain. Regular guest Eric Clapton marked his seat by hanging his guitar at the wall. A short time later, Pete Townshend of The Who sent his guitar as well. Starting in 1982, more Hard Rock Cafes were opened around the world, meanwhile they have more than 70,000 exhibits of famous artists. You can see me here in front of a guitar of Marilyn Manson.
